Before Coming to IU

Before coming to IU, I had a lot of nerves and excitement. My senior year of high school was a really busy one, but a year filled with the most memorable experiences with my friends. A learning experience I had was when I was struggling in INFO- I101 where I got stuck on the assignments. I realized that if I didn't ask for help or go to office hours things wouldn't get better. So I started going to the study sessions, which helped me tremendously. I think something everybody struggles with, especially myself, is asking questions or for help, which I think I overcame a little bit. Another learning curve for myself was being excited for the independence that came with coming to Bloomington, but quickly realized that being independent doesn't mean that I have to do everything on my own and instead having people around and staying busy is a greater blessing. I'm so grateful to have met and made new friends since I got here and to have friends from home to rely on as well and excited for 3 more years as a hoosier!

Strengths and Weaknesses

A strength I've recently discovered is in Japanese. Growing up learning English and Korean has given me the upper hand in learning Japanese. The similarities in grammar and pronunciation of certain words have helped me tremendously.

A weakness I've always had is being too honest, so I may come off blunt at times. However, I'd rather be honest because I like it when people get to the point rather than beating around the bush. I also feel like being honest can be very good constructive criticism and reflecting on oneself.

Life Lesson

The biggest lesson I've learned since coming to IU is that communication is an even greater deal. Good communication has been a big factor to maintaining good relationships with the people around me because with everybody's different schedules, it's harder to coordinate things and easier for confusion to arise. So I've learned that honest communication is the best when getting your feelings across. I think that's how I've always maintained good relationships with my friends by conveying what we think in a mature manner.
